I left a little Valentine surprise on your child’s desk this morning!  Although a little late, Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Thank-you to all my little valentines today for the lovely cards!

Today in math we looked at lesson 6 which teaches the strategy to first multiply by 10 to multiply by 8 and 9.  The concept is such that multplying by 10 is generally easier that multpilying by 8 or 9; hence, to multiply a number by 8 or 9 we would first multiply by 10 then substract.  For example, 8 x 10 = 80 hence 8 x 9 = 80 – 8 = 72.  After completing several examples together, the class completed two practice exercises on page 184.  They completed exercises 1 and 4 individually.  Those who did not finish will need to do so for homework.

The class had gym today.

In language arts, we read two more chapters in Varjak Paw.  Varjak learns the Fourth Skill. Ask your child to explain it to you.  Varjak also finally becomes a part of a new family of sorts with Tam and Holly.  With his collar removed he is now officially an Outside cat!

In French, I introduced a short book study that we will be starting, La Ronde des Papillons. We will be reading, discussing and doing some work related to this book for the next couple of weeks.

Please note that I returned several pieces of assessment today with your child.  Please sign and return.

Please note we will be having our Janeway Day tomorrow, February 17th.  Students are asked to bring a small donation in support of the Janeway!

Tomorrow will also be career day at St. Edward’s.  Students are permitted to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up.
