Today in math, we started lesson 8 in chapter 2. The focus was on being able to write about how we compare numbers and put numbers in order. After the chapter introduction, students were put in groups of three. Each group was given a series of 5 numbers. They had to work together to explain their thought process on how to decide the order of the numbers. They will present their group work to the class tomorrow.
In Language Arts, we read chapter 7 in our novel Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and completed our fact sheet. The class is finding the chapters amusing and it can sometimes lead to an interesting discussion or personal story related to the chapter.
In religion, we read about giving thanks and how other religions also give thanks. We talked about being grateful. The class completed a sheet which asked them about what it means to give thanks, why it is important to be grateful, and what things they are grateful for in their lives. This is an introduction to a Thanksgiving day activity we will be starting tomorrow and finishing for our Thanksgiving Day assembly.
In Sciences, we continued our study of our rocks! Today we looked at two short videos that describe how rocks are formed and the different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. The students took out their own rock collection and tried to identify rocks as igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. This was a challenging but fun activity! Once finished I asked the class to choose two rocks from their collection. They had to draw an image of their rocks and describe the characteristics of each rock.
